The Starlings Analogy

Like starlings synchronize their flights in constantly changing formations in the moment, so too, human beings can join in a joyous, synchronous “dance-for-life.” It is our aliveness that tunes us in to a multitude of unfolding patterns and formations that express our common, innate drive to survive and thrive.   <more>

It is the numbers in these creative life-giving dances that could bring about The Shift” we’ve always wanted.

About the authors, we call ourselves “Global Community-Minnesota”. For 27 years our small close-knit group has been meeting twice a month to discuss important issues and support one another in our individual chosen work to make this world a better place for everyone.

This is not a “you should” site. The resources we pull together are meant to be used as grist material for your reflection and creation (or modification) of your action plan.

As Martin Luther King said in March of 1976, “we must learn to survive together as brothers, or we will all perish together as fools.” What will it take to stop the senseless wars, the destruction of the natural world, and the demise of humanity? It seems overwhelming to do anything about these trends, but we must not lose hope. If we do, it’s all over. Our hope is that this site will help all of us in choosing more effective ways of solving our own problems and the critical problems the world is facing.

So, “ABOUT US” is really about “ALL OF US”. We are all more alike than different. We all have 23 pairs of chromosomes that look the same, and we all have the same deep aspirations. We want our lives to be satisfying, joyful, and meaningful, just as we want that for our children and their children’s children. And that’s really the overriding theme of this web site.

Our best to you in this serendipitous, synchronous “Dance for Life!”

ABOUT US

About the authors of this web site, we call ourselves “Global Community-Minnesota”. For 27 years our small close-knit group has been meeting twice a month to discuss these important issues and support one another in our individual chosen work. activist activities. In the 1980s we were part of an international consortium called “Beyond War”. In 1989, when the cold war ended, our emphasis shifted to other issues such as the environment, economic disparities, the well-being of life, peace, politics and personal activism. We call ourselves simply “Global Community-Minnesota”.

We started this web site out of concern about current global trends which don’t look good. For things to get better it became clear we have to be working on ourselves at the same time we participate in the shift needed in the world at large. So our web site offers grist material for making progress in both areas: personal growth (Aliveness) and global change (The Shift).

We’re structuring it so you are in control of designing your own workshop. Select those short videos and messages meaningful to you and make them a part of your personal growth program. It may be even more helpful if you did this in a small group, like ours. We call this our serendipitous, synchronous “Dance for Life!” Who knows what might ripple out from anything we [you] decide to do. It is important that we [all] go for it.
