Awakening to the possibility of extinction.

Acknowledging it is possible the human race may go extinct is, by itself, an awakening.

Common sense says, when the stakes are this high, we better pay attention.

What will it matter if we find water on the moon and send people to Mars, when Earth’s life-support systems can no longer sustain life here? How foolish are we anyway?

Quoting Eckhart Tolle, author of A New World, “Humanity is now faced with a stark choice: Evolve or die. If the structures of the human mind remain unchanged, we will always end up re-creating the same world, the same evils, the same dysfunction.”

Spiritual teacher Adyashanti describes how reaching a point of crisis can lead to a shift in consciousness, both individually and collectively, and he acknowledges the pressure on humanity to awaken before time runs out.

“In a time of crisis, pressures mount for Life to take care of itself—to evolve, to awaken and do what needs to be done to survive and flourish.”

What Would It Look Like?

This 25-minute video (the longest on this web site) asks us to reflect on the state of the world and ourselves, and to listen more closely to what is being asked of us at this time of unprecedented global transformation.

What if the world embodied our highest potential? What would it look like? As the structures of modern society crumble, is it enough to respond with the same tired solutions? Or are we being called to question a set of unexamined assumptions that form the very basis of our civilization?

THE SHIFT “A”, “B”, “C

Life Conditions Are Signaling A Major Shift.

And, as individuals get well, society gets better.” Ann Wilson Schaff

WHY “The Shift”?

“In a time of crisis, pressures mount for Life to take care of itself—to evolve, to awaken and do what needs to be done to survive and flourish.” Adyashanti

THE SHIFT FOR LIFE
having confidence in possibility—and giving yourself to it

Where are we heading and how fast?

In 1972, The Rand McNally Atlas published The Earth and Man which said, “If left unchecked, the twin perils of pollution and human conflict  could remove man from the world that he has helped to shape. All that would be left is the ruins of a spent civilization.”

Also, in 1972, system analysts published The Limits to Growth which plotted various scenarios relating to the prognosis for humanity. In 8 of their 9 scenarios, long term survival would be in jeopardy. Thirty years later, in 2002, they updated their prognosis and concluded: “Humanity has squandered the opportunity to correct its current course of 30 years.”  Thirty three percent of the world’s natural resource base has been consumed in the last thirty years alone.

Now, in 2010, our path still goes on largely unchecked, and this has put humanity behind the 8-ball. We can no longer afford to drag our feet. The consequences of an unchecked path are horrendous. Denial and distractions won’t solve a thing.

The Shift - for better (or worse?)

This is not about taking sides on a political, religious, economic or social belief system. We are all in the same boat. All life is at a critical juncture. We have to work together.

What do we do? What do we want the world to become? What part can you effectively play in this high stakes survival “game”?

Will Humanity

“Crash or Bounce?”

Our possibilities are infinite; our choices unique, and what we each do is important. It all adds up.

SEEK TRUTH

No one has the whole truth, but together we have a better chance of getting closer to it.

The Shift For Life!

“In a time of crisis, pressures mount for Life to take care of itself—to evolve, to awaken and do what needs to be done to survive and flourish.”

                                                                                                Adyashanti

Why “The Shift”? Because...

  1. 1.Severe life conditions are mounting and threatening all life on earth.

  2. 2.Old thinking isn’t going to save us. We need a global mind-shift.

  3. 3.Moving in a different direction is our only chance to survive and flourish.

  4. 4. Not only must we shift, we must proceed with the speed, money and energy equivalent to WWII’s armament campaign.

Fundamental Shifts Important to All of Us

Here are five Life conditions EVERYONE has a stake in—no matter what religion, economic status, political stance, location, race or job.

  1. 1.We must learn how to live without fossil fuels, for they WILL run out shortly.                                    • Peak oil

  2. 2.We must learn how to live sustainably before Earth no longer can support life..                  • Sustainability

  3. 3.We must preserve quality of life, i.e. reduce pollution, toxicity and undernourishment.     • Quality of Life

  4. 4.We must abolish wars, (the great DETRACTOR from what we urgently need to accomplish.)      • Ending Wars

  5. 5.We must learn how to serve one another and the larger, sustaining whole.                            • Make the Connections

Uncertainty and Risk

of life not continuing.

Common sense says, when the stakes are this high, we better pay attention and act.

What will it matter if we find water on the moon and send people to Mars, when Earth’s life-support systems can no longer sustain life here? How foolish are we?

Not only must we shift, “we must proceed with the speed, money and energy equivalent to WWII’s armament campaign.”

How high are the stakes? Martin Luther King said in March of 1976, “We must learn to survive together as brothers, or we will all perish together as fools.

“Quality of Life”

What’s happening to it?

The global community is increasingly aware that the quality of [all] life is under siege.  Pollution, toxicity, global warming, and undernourishment are all increasing. Natural resources are depleting, water tables dropping, world poverty is mounting and wars continue.

The Millenium Goals for 2015 apply to these issues.

A. Why the Shift

  1. 1.the 11th hour

  2. 2.Shift movie

  3. 3.the natural

  4. 4.cultural

  5. 5.waking up

  6. 6.is it too late?

Watch: What Would It Look Like? A 25 minute video about the world as it is—presented by the Global Oneness Project. It’s asking, can we “transform” and can we do it in time?

With All life at a critical juncture, one thing is sure: to save civilization, we will need to be in much closer touch with our individual and collective Aliveness.

So, again, why “The Shift”?

In "Four Steps to a Better World” Joanna Macy said, “For life to continue, we must invent a whole new way of supporting human life on earth.”

  1. 1.Current life condition trends, if continued, will end in disaster for all life on earth.

  2. 2.Old thinking keeps us stuck on a win-lose mentality with the greedy at the top.

  3. 3.Moving in a different direction is our only chance to survive and flourish.

  4. 4. To change direction, we will need a global mind-shift and a new vision / story.

Not only must we shift, Lester Brown emphasizes, “we must proceed with the speed, money and energy equivalent to WWII’s armament campaign.”

Our possibilities are infinite; our choices unique, and what we each do is important. The more people who participate, the better our chances.

“Society is sick and

wants to get better. And,

as individuals get well,

society gets better.”
